Sapphires Are A Girl’s New Best Friend

Saturday, June 21, 2014

With the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton and glam actress Penelope Cruz sporting them sapphires are fast making a comeback when it comes to choosing an engagement ring. Designers are being inundated with requests for replicas of Kate’s gorgeous ring with sapphire centre piece. These fashion icons sporting the stone on their hand has boosted sales in recent years and belongs to a wider, popular growing trend of colourful gemstones being favoured over the diamond.

Sapphires, like diamonds are know for their durability and the stone is regarded as one of the hardest. The stone is prooving to be a great choice for engagement rings because of their strength, especially as the ring that is meant to be worn everyday. Although most people associate the sapphire with the colour of blue the precious stone is also available in a range of different colours including green, yellow, pink, white, brown and purple. The sapphire is also available (although very rare and expensive) in a shade said to be between a soothing lotus and an orange summer sunset called Padparadscha.
The gem is also available in a wide range of hues and therefore finding the right tone can be a difficult process. The popular sapphire can range from a light pale blue to a darker almost deep purple blue. The most popular choice and the most recommnded by engagment ring designers is a stone with a hue in the middle ground, not too pale and not too dark. This colour sapphire will bring out al the stones reflective qualitites that will provide that bit of bling and sparkle you would get from a diamond. Ultimately though the choice is up to you but the sapphire does produce a myriad of choices for the buyer of the engagement ring.

Another popular modern trend amongst engagment ring buyers is to choose a stone that reflects the personality of the individual who wears it. Many people are becming concerned with the meaning of the stone and its colour when choosing an engagement ring. Designer rings are not incorporating coloured stones into engagement rings as symbols for different qualities. The different colours available with the sapphire provide a range of meanings and characteristics that are desriable marriage attributes. The most popular blue sapphire is symbolic of relaxing qualities, it’s calming tone is said to represent loyalty, composure and reliability. A pink sapphire is believed to help its wearer overcome shyness and is said to bring playfulness to a relationship. Yellow sapphires are a symbol of good decision making and wealth. Finding out the meaning of your choice in sapphire will provide an added extra piece of sentiment to an already important ring.
